Gifts & Relationships: Holiday Edition, Take One

Tis’ the season for getting what you want! And if this is your first season celebrating Christmas with your potential boo, you really don’t know what to expect … perhaps you’re even a little cloudy on your mate’s expectations. Nobody likes to be given a bad gift. Fortunately, you can eliminate that feeling and say so much more with one of my gift suggestions. Want to make your relationship more exclusive? Here’s a gift suggestion that’s tailored for just that reason.

Purchase your beau/belle a “Duffle Bag” for the holidays packed with essentials that he/she has been craving. For her: pack an array of cosmetics, gift cards, and possibly a pair of shoes she’s been eyeing for a while. For him: pack sporting gear, tickets, and tech gadgets. Gifts within gifts. This present takes in consideration necessity, practicality, and preference. Ultimately, thanks to yours truly, this gift can land you the right position you’ve been pining away for since summer. Isn’t that the whole purpose … getting what you want?

Now remember these gifts are unisex and scream “won’t you stay a while.” Now I realize I’m recommending that you give your significant other a bag, but I challenge you to think of it as a practical gift that he/she can use on the way to the gym, for a sporting event (athlete/spectator) or for a mini weekend vacay. It can express the style of the recipient if you choose labels (designers) correctly. Not for this to work, the climate in your relationship has to be just right. Caveat: A bag won’t necessarily get you him/her without yen for one another actually being present. Don’t splurge if you’re gut doesn’t agree.

Remember that the great thing about a duffle bag is that they can vary in style, colors, and price range. Find one that’s a win-win situation for both of you. Now check out my duffle bag recommendation. No fakes; keep it authentic and stay in your price range. That’s the Panache way.

JSWMG 3rd Annual Red Pump Affair Recap

Thursday night, I attended JSW Media Group’s 3rd Annual Red Pump Affair which was held at the Harvey B. Gantt Center. Jameka Whitten, the Charlotte ambassador for the Red Pump Project and Owner of JSWMG, put together a night filled with fashion, spoken-word entertainment by Bluz, and networking. Purposefully, JSWMG was able to engage its audience meanwhile educate them on prevention of HIV/AIDS.

JSWMG also awarded Joanne Stevenson for her dedicated work in educating and counseling those who live or are being impacted by the disease. Stevenson gladly received her Red Pump Award–a mounted, sparkling 4-inch red pump.

At Closing, Andre Jarrid, one of Charlotte’s up-and-coming designers/stylist, presented a gawking, eye-catchy, mini collection … suitable for socialites. See clips from the event below. Big shout-out to CBS Radio Personality “Chirl Girl” and DJ Yasmine Young who kept the party going. And thanks to JSW Media Group for inviting us. Next time.

Increase of Diversity in Cartoons

Today is a post mainly about our children. Parents are forever trying to find good programs for their children to watch. Today I wanted to bring my reader’s attention to some current cartoons that embrace diversity. The cartoons listed in this post all have two things in common. The first requirement is that the minority characters in these cartoons are either in lead roles or make a good contribution to a team effort. The other requirement is that each cartoon has in common is that each minority character is part of a larger effort that is composed of different races.

That being said these specific cartoons may not be the only examples on television but are good examples of these qualifications. I believe it is important for children to see all races working together towards something positive. The four cartoon examples I have chosen are all action oriented cartoons, so they are more geared towards boys than girls. Below are the four choices:

Cartoon number one is the Voltron Force. This cartoon brings back the old 80’s cartoon called Voltron: The Defender of the Universe. The cartoon features five pilots all of different hair colors and races from the first series. The cartoon has also added teenage cadets one which is an African American male. The African American character has a special power that helps Voltron accomplish amazing feats.

Cartoon number two is G. I. Joe Renegades. The title may sound bad but it is nothing more than a revamped version of the old 80’s G. I. Joe cartoon. However, in this cartoon the Joes do not have the backing of the federal government and have been wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit. The G. I. Joe team consists of an African American male, a male of Asian descent, a Caucasian American woman, and two other Caucasian American male characters. Each character works together equally to make sure the team is successful in their missions.

Cartoon number three is Generator Rex. While the title sounds like a cross between a dinosaur and some machine, the cartoon is far different. The world has been changed by a virus which changes people into monsters. The main Character whose name is Rex is Mexican in descent. Rex has the ability to actually cure people from the monster virus and return them to normal. Rex also has some other very cool powers to go along with his curing ability. The whole cartoon is centered on one minority being able to help cure people of all races and backgrounds.

Cartoon number four is Young Justice. Young Justice is an off-shoot of the Justice League cartoon. In Young Justice, all the characters are former sidekicks or well known superheroes such as Superman, Batman, Aquaman, and etc. Each sidekick is from a different place. Two characters that are very different are the Martian character which is from another planet, and the Atlantean character that is from Atlantis. The Martian character can change shape but has a hard time learning customs and being accepted in a new world. Similarly, the Atlantean character finds that his customs are not the same of the surface world. Additionally, the Atlantean character has a darker skin tone similar to an African American. Through the series, the Atlantean character earns his way up from being an outcast to being a team leader through his actions. It is truly inspiring to watch the process and the decision the character makes.

Sometimes it is hard to find good cartoons for our children to watch. These cartoons are excellent cartoons to show children how people of different races can come together for a good cause. I recommend checking each of these cartoons for a rewarding and inspiring cartoon experience.

Ex Marks the Spot-Keeping Up With the Kardashians Drama and Style Highlights

Can you spot the MAD DASH in every scene of Sunday’s night of Keeping Up with the Kardashians?

First the sisters are frustrated with Kris’ work-a-holic behavior, having missed game night at Kourtney‘s. Next up, Kim picks a fight with Khloe. I agree with Kimmie, her ceased and dismissed exes shouldn’t be hanging around in frames; they should be cleared for the new boo–Kris Humphries. Then, Bruce disses Disick. Also, Mama Kris verbally checks the girls for their no-show to a business meeting. See the Khloe vs. Kim fight below.

But ahhh … at the end of the day, we’re reminded that no matter how crazy this family gets, it’s first focus is each other! How sweet.

Beyond their love for one another, we’re also enamored by their fashion sense and beauty. Here’s a few higlights of trends from Sunday night’s episode.

Kardashian is the new Black– It’s true black looks hot on the most curvaceous bodies, whether it’s hiding or highlighting the thickest of body parts.

Red is Head– Did you notice how Bruce wore the button-up while everyone else wore black at dinner? Talk about diverting attention from the sisters to their stepdad. Will the next episode focus on Bruce Jenner … and Kris? This is also called red herring.

Red Bottoms– Kim K shows off her Christian Louboutin as she hits rock bottom, having tripped out of her shoe. Her mini showdown with mooching Rob caused this MAD DASH.

Black or White?– Apparently, it’s both. Watch this episode again and find: Kendel’s stripe cardigan; Kim K’s black and white scarf and Kourtney’s black and white leggings.

Well, those are my Fashion highlights for Season 6, episode 1. Check in next week for more of #KUWTK.

Defeated Over Logan

So last night I went to the Sushi & Stiletto event at Enso. Subsequently, I just arrived to the pair shoes I had been secretly wanting since August. I’m not sure why I didn’t purchase them then. I just wasn’t sure if they were that fly at first, I think!

So as soon as I stepped onto the scene, I gravitated towards them. All the styles were arranged by size. And there they were stacked high. On display, out of the box, standing proud of it’s print, there they were staring back at me. It was actually a 15 second stare-down/size-up. You know like you see in the Westerns, tumbleweeds, dry air and all?! Then, this chick rolls up on me and says “I was going to get those.” Oh then the guilt set in. “Are you sure? I’ve been wanting these for some time,” I responded. I swear I wanted to just pick them up and run. I always told myself I will never be defeated over a shoe. I’d never let another woman/man walk in a pair of shoes meant just for me! (Yea, I know they’re mass produced. But every shoe I buy has been made with my image in mind, so I imagined.)

So then I said: “Well let me just try them on …” Oh heaven’s door just opened up … there were sun rays/white lights every where. Then I got this feeling inside. I was overwhelmed with so much joy!

The ornament piece decorated my feet with poofy headgear, cushioned my sole, and leveled my falling arch. After muttering pejoratives under my breathe, I looked to the chick and said “fine, you can have them.” Feeling guilty, this chick started picking out other shoes for me … (I turned them all down), only making me more disgruntled about the entire ordeal! I wanted to shout: “JUST TAKE THEM ALREADY!!” However, I maintained my composure.

The one I wanted were in her hands and only for 20 bucks!

Having thought about the shoes all night long, I finally looked them up on Heels and decided that I would just buy them full price!

No these are not Marc Jacobs or even Badgley Mischka’s! Their the Hale Bob Logan heels! I had personal sentiments with this shoe. It’s kind of like a love lesson learned: “When something has such high personal value to you, never wait to see if someone else will pick it up. Grab and purchase it. Make it your own.” It’s the exact thing to do with your personal style.  Personal value trumps social value every time! While it will trend in the market, it will stay in sync with your spirit! Now that’s timeless.

Have you been waiting to jump on a new style that’s solely yours? Have you been waiting for society to adopt, purchase, or love on something you’ve been admiring from afar? Don’t wait like I did; jump on it today!

Happy Hump Day!!

The Late Hale Bob Logan which would pair so nicely with my purple skinnies! I’m sure you’re reading this! You better enjoy them!

(Nods head) “Treat them with care.”

This is a re-post of work I did on a heels site. Hope you like. It’s one of my favorites.

Fashionables – Chunky Spring Shoes — New York Magazine

Fashionables – Chunky Spring Shoes — New York Magazine.

Don’t these shoes remind you of toning sneakers? Exactly, you don’t need those sneakers. Just keep walking in wedged heels, and you’ll get the firm bod you’re really looking for … hahaha. Check out this slideshow. A blog to feed my PANACHE heel fetish.

Follow Friday!

Being that it is Follow Friday (#FF) on Twitter, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites that I follow!

@abelleinbk — Known as the the black Carrie Bradshaw, Demetria Lucas is one of my writing idols. I absolutely love her style, both fashion and writing-wise! She has the incredible gift of telling a story and making you feel as if you were there, too. Like her silent, invisible best friend lol Check her out in the latest issue of Essence magazine (she writes for them as well…I told you she was dope!) or on her blog.

@TheRealMiaX — The 1st lady of No Limit always has great advice and words of witty wisdom passed down from her late grandmother that she shares with her followers. I’m inspired by her in so many ways! Not only is she a pioneer for female emcees, she also has the financial smarts to save and invest her money wisely. When sales in the music industry took a turn for the worse, “Mama Mia” was able to retire (at her own will) at the age of 30, is the owner of her own restaurant (True Friends)  in New Orleans, the mother of two adult children (make that 3 — she adopted me via Twitter lol)  AND she has a cookbook coming out soon (you can get full just LOOKING at her Twitpics)!

@boosiejustice — The go-to page for the latest Boosie news and trial updates. This twitter page stems from www.freetorencehatch.com, the site dedicated to increasing awareness and strengthening support of the Free Boosie campaign. It keeps fans up-to-speed with everything regarding his trial, videos and blog posts, and also provides links to the online petition and a place for monetary donations that go toward his defense fund (at this point, ALL of Boosie’s assets have been frozen…where they do THAT at?!?). All donations go directly to his mother, Connie Hatch. What I love most about this whole movement is the fact that it presents readers with actual, up-to-date FACTS about the case so that they aren’t misguided by the false allegations present in mainstream media. The site also sheds light on the POSITIVE things he’s done in his life and the POSITIVITY that can be found within his lyrics. If you’re not familiar with the circumstances surrounding this case, please visit the site and see for yourself . Be Clear: they DO NOT  have to come to your house in the middle of the night, wearing sheets & burning crosses to lynch a Black man these days! SMH.

Special shout out to BoosieArmy for always showing love on Twitter as well! *waves* Heeyyy BoosieArmy! lol

And, of course, be sure to follow @NikkiPanache for links to the latest in Carolina news, entertainment, fashion, & music!

Happy Follow Friday!!

Heels That’ll Get You Mo’ Heels

@WynterSpring threw up her shoe wish list this week, and I thought I’d share mine. Awww … I’ve got a muse. Blogging about shoes is one of my favorite things. Since the 70s is in season, we all are feeling like bell-bottom, wide leg, saturday night fever these days. So I figured I’d start with these colorful numbers that are in sync with the times. Check out their suede material, huge party flowers, and poppin’ colors! These heels scream contemporary romanticism, 70s style.

Irregular Choice Specialzo

Wayyy back in the day (she’d kill me if she knew I said that), my mom modeled in New York, with her huge, dark brown, fro’. At one point, she was natural. Though, she now wears a mohawk. I still remember the days beauty, fashion, and brains was first introduced to me–it was her in her. My mom wore a similar pair of shoes, less color, no flower, but still impressive. Check out the Irregular Choice Specialzo. They’re my new PINK favs. I’d even sing to these babies …

The shoe’s plastic heel is nostalgic along with it’s thick strap and rounded up toe. Well, what do you think? You can catch a pair at Heels.com.

Giuseppe ZanottiThese are what I call “the heels that’ll get you MO’ heels.” All you slick talking DIVAS out there know what I mean. These are the heels that you cook in for your boo … and the ta-da you get a new pair of heels to cook in! I think you know what I’m talking about. It’s inspiring beaded detail will get you strutting your stuff with an objective in mind. Mission: Possible.

Oh, that was fun. I needed to get that off … Well til next time … stay PANACHE in some flashy heels. L8r.

My Spring Wish List!

So, I’m starting the wish list for my spring collection, and like the true shoe-fiend that I am, I’m starting from the bottom up!

First on the list is a pair of sculpted platform heels by Italian duo, Silvano Arnoldo & Massimiliano Battois, for their line, Arnoldo e Battois.

I LOVE the architectural style of this shoe has & the height is simply ORGASMIC! lol

The taupe/nude color will blend well with many of spring’s hottest colors, but I’m thinking more along the lines of shades of cream, gold or bronze, or orange!

Who am I kidding? You could wear these with a potato sack and still WERK!

These shoes are definitely statement pieces that speak for themselves! With some poppin a** polish on the toes…girl BYE!

When it’s time to give the ankles a rest, next on the list is a pair of Alejandro Ingelmo Ballet Flats.

Every time I say the designers name I break out into Lady  Gaga’s “Alejandro”!

Ale-Alejandro…Ale-Alejandrooooooo!! (Don’t mind me, I’m slow) lol

Courtesy of shoelust.tumblr.com

Pair ‘em with a sundress in the summer, or jeans in the winter…can you say, STAPLE PIECE?!!

Cute, dainty & comfy? Me likey!

If not by the end of spring, I need both pair in my closet before summer! Any takers? lol

What are some of your spring must-haves?

Product Pick of the Day: Salon Pro 30 Second Weave Wonder Wrap

Salon Pro Weave Wonder Wrap

Ok, so today is my glam day. While most of you were out frolicking about town, enjoying this springtime weather, I spent my day with my head either under the faucet or under the hair dryer…yayy. BUT, all true divas know that with beauty, comes sacrifice!

Any who…I’m doing another quick weave glue-in on my hair (my protective style of choice until it’s relaxer time), and I wanted to let you Weave Queens (Don’t hide girl! I see you!) know about this new (well, new to me) product that I’m about to try for the first time. It’s the Salon Pro 30 Second Weave Wonder Wrap (WWW).

I know you guys and non-weave wearers are like WHAT in THE world is this girl talkin bout?? LOL Google & Youtube, my friends. Google. and. Youtube!

So, after almost taking clippers to my head trying to get leftover bonding glue out of my hair, I knew I had to try something different this time.

WWW is a protective serum placed on dry, molded (with hair gel yall lol) hair that protects the hair from coming in contact with the glue that’s used on the weft. From what I understand, it’s kinda like a liquefied, hardened skull cap that acts as a barrier between the bonding glue and the natural hair.

WWW is very reasonably priced. I picked up the 2 oz. bottle at my local beauty supply store for $5.99. That’s enough for one full head, but it comes in 4, 8 and 16 oz as well.
Shoutout to Mike and Ms Kim on Kivett Drive, by the way!

Wish me luck guys! Once my hair is molded, I’ll be ready to apply WWW. Of course, I did some research prior to and found nothing but good comments about the product. Plus, I’m pretty good at D.I.Y type things, so I’m sure my hair will be FIERCE when I’m done!

In the meantime, check out these videos I found explaining WWW and how it’s used & removed (It supposedly washes right out…no leftover glue!).

The lady sounds like the guy from the Clear Eyes commercials, but she does a better job of explaining it than I just did, plus there are visuals!
Oh yeah, if anybody out there has tried WWW or something similar, or if you have any weaving techniques or ideas, let us know!

I’ll be back soon with a full review of the Wonder Wrap & the hair I used (Say Me Cuatro Candy Curl)…stay tuned!

CIAA 2011 Review

Share photos on twitter with Twitpic
I kicked off my CIAA weekend Thursday night (March 3rd) at a great fashion show/music mixer at the Loft downtown Charlotte. The clothes were designed by Ruby Jones and her Sadity Kitty clothing line. The music included DJ AI spinning and live performances with singers and rappers. One female R&B singer that was a great performer caught my eye (feature article soon) and the male singer was King Carter singing his single Love Potion No. 5. Another favorite of mine rapper Define Jones (below) freestyled on the mic. I saw him open up for Big Krit and Wiz Khalifa at the Wake and Bake tour in Winston-Salem, NC last year. The whole event was put together by the one and only Madame Vonne. Check out the full article by Wynter Spring here.
Rapper Define Jones

The rest of my weekend was spent party hopping. Friday night I ended up at Club Onyx, one of the wildest strip clubs I’ve ever been to. I loved it! The ladies were talented with tricks, acrobatics, and bodies you wouldn’t believe. Dollars everywhere, wings and drinks flowing, and hype music – what more you could ask for in a strip club? The VIP included rappers Fabolous and Meek Mill who came after a club appearance at The Tent. It was like the Charlotte version of King of Diamonds!

Saturday night was celeb studded with my homies Wiz and Wale with Rick Ross at Club 935. It went down! All my Wale fans missed out if you weren’t at CIAA he hosted events from Wednesday-Saturday (and remembered me from his show at WSSU calling me Wake Forest!) It was definitely a celebration for Wale and Meek Mill signing to Rick Ross’s group Maybach Music. For all of you who missed it you HAVE to check out the video on Rick Ross’ blog to see how we did it for CIAA!
